Someone phoned you?
Members of the public have been contacted by phone, from a company who call themselves "Click to Fix", "Click and Fix" or "Click and Fix IT" or similar.
The Scam
They say that their servers have detected a problem with your
computer and they persuade you to run a piece of software on your
home PC called "Event Viewer" which they say "proves" that there is
a critical problem with your PC.
In fact, this is a normal error message and most computers will
have it, it is safe and normal and can be ignored.
What they do next is persuade you to purchase some software and/or a monthly/annual contract that will fix the problem or offer some sort of protection. The member of public is then persuaded to part with a significant amount of money and install some software onto their PC.
It's not me!
This company is NOT Click and Fix Computer Services Ltd (who own this website). My company offers professional IT consultancy such as in database design. We never cold call members of the public.
What to do if you were contacted by these people
You can help us to get these peopled stopped! If you have not yet parted with any money, hang up the phone and never speak to these people again. Report it to Consumer Direct who have the power, through the Office of Fair Trading to investigate this company.
If you have already parted with money, Consumer Direct can offer advice in relation to what to do next in terms of requesting a refund or any comeback you may be able to get.
Go to the Consumer Direct website for further information or phone them on 08454 04 05 06
Consumer Direct work with the Office of Fair Trading who are aware of this company and the potential scam they are operating. By contacting them you will help them to build up a portfolio of complaints that, I hope, may one day bring this particular company to a halt.
If you do not have anti-virus or security software installed, I recommend AVG a well established bona fide company. They have a free version of their software for home use as well as a paid for but fully functional internet security suite that includes social networking protection - their full product is cheaper than high-street brands and can be obtained through the following links...
